Over the objections of QANTUM COMMUNICATIONS (which is suing to block the deal) and the MEDIA ACCESS PROJECT, the FCC approves a station swap between CUMULUS and STAR BROADCASTING in FORT WALTON BEACH, FL with the proviso that CUMULUS cannot prevent STAR from doing an AC format on the stations it is acquiring.
STAR gets AC WNCV (COAST 100.3) and Country WYZB (COUNTRY 105.5) while Country-Talk WPGG (THE POWER PIG) and Sports-Talk WTKE (98.1 THE TICKET) are going to CUMULUS; the objectors say that the deal gives the companies too much control over the market and that the loans involved in the swap were anti-competitive.
