XM's official announcement of channel lineup changes includes 10 new commercial-free music channels (including some that will run in parallel to similar-format commercial channels provided by CLEAR CHANNEL), plus six new regional news-talk channels programmed by CLEAR CHANNEL.
The music channels to be added in APRIL and MAY include U.S. COUNTRY (80s and 90s), "Modern Hits" FLIGHT 26, Top 40 XM HITLIST, Southern Gospel ENLIGHTEN, heavy metal XM LIQUID METAL, Top 40-Rhythm THE HEAT, easy listening ESCAPE, and "Latin Pop Hits" VIVA. CLEAR CHANNEL's Country WSIX/NASHVILLE and Talk WLW-A/CINCINNATI will also be offered along with the addition of commercials on CLEAR CHANNEL-programmed KISS, MIX, NASHVILLE, and SUNNY. OPRAH WINFREY's "OPRAH AND FRIENDS" channel is now set for a SEPTEMBER 2006 debut; Classic Rock "BIG TRACKS" and the XM CHILL channel (similar to the channel earlier introduced by rival SIRIUS) were previously added on MARCH 1.
Current offerings THE TORCH, THE FLOW, and LUNA will exit the XM regular lineup but will continue online and via DIRECTV. MUSIC LAB will be available only through XM RADIO ONLINE. And several channels will get new names, including THE FISH (now THE MESSAGE), UNSIGNED (now THE VERGE), ALEGRIA (now FUEGO), ASK (now TALK RADIO), and FRANC PARLER (now SPORTPLUS).
