Talk KPSI-A/PALM SPRINGS "THE CAR NUT" host STEVE PARKER has joined the crusade to save SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA's iconic "76 Balls," hosting the gas station sign's creator, RAY PEDERSEN, for an interview earlier this month.
Current 76 owner CONOCOPHILLIPS is removing the familiar orange globes used at the chain's gas stations and replacing them with plain red flat signs, sending fans of the balls into preservation overdrive. The "76 balls" have appeared in movies (memorably "THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK," in which a 76 ball rolling down a street provides comic relief at a crucial moment) and above the DODGER STADIUM gas station visible beyond the outfield pavilions.
PARKER's interview with PEDERSEN has been posted as a podcast at http://www.savethe76ball.com/carnut.
