SATURDAY (3/18), RIVIERA BEACH, FL hosted the RIVIERA BEACH JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL. The show ran long and pushed the headline act, PATTI LABELLE, into well after midnight. The weather was unseasonably cool for South Florida and turned the night into a bit of a nightmare for the show's legendary star. Shivering in the cool night air, LABELLE could not shake off the chills and although she tried, she was unable to perform. The 61 year old singer sat on the stage and began to cry. She apologized to the waiting audience and told the fans that if they walked out, she would understand. Many did leave. LABELLE called the concert, "the worst show I've ever done in my life". There's been tremendous reaction to the concert and LABELLE's performance...some against and some supportive.
COX RADIO Urban AC WHQT (HOT 105)/MIAMI has been vocal in its support of PATTI LABELLE. THURSDAY (4/30), the station will interview LABELLE and give her the opportunity to talk to her fans and HOT 105 listeners. HOT 105 is also having a huge, SOUTH FLORIDA LOVES YOU PATTI card signed by listeners and fans. The station will be sending the card to LABELLE. You can hear the interview THURSDAY afternoon on WHQT's Web site at Hot105FM.com.
The MIAMI HERALD's Online edition has more on the concert and fallout here.
