CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS INC., CBS CORP., CITADEL BROADCASTING CORP., and ENTERCOM COMMUNICATIONS CORP. have reportedly been engaged in talks with the FCC over settling their investigation into payola, reports REUTERS.
Those discussions have included possible contributions by the companies to the U.S. TREASURY as part of a settlement, sources close to the matter told REUTERS.
The FCC began its probe into pay-for-play allegations last AUGUST following NEW YORK Attorney General ELIOT SPITZER's own investigations into payola. It was SPITZER who urged the FCC to take action against radio stations that violate regulations on airplay.
