HOWARD STERN helped track down an assailant who spit in his girlfriend's face on SATURDAY evening. The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that STERN and girlfriend BETH OSTROSKY were allegedly accosted by a fan while walking on Columbus Avenue in MANHATTAN, and when they jumped into a cab, the fan, 50 year old GREGORY FORBES, allegedly spit into the cab's open window, hitting OSTROSKY in the face.
STERN called police, who initially could not find FORBES until a shaken STERN rode in a cruiser to help search for the man, eventually spotting and identifying him. FORBES was arraigned SUNDAY night on charges of third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment.
STERN's close encounter followed his controversial comments last week to ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY scolding fans who did not sign up to pay to hear his show on SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO as "cheap bastards."
