THE NEW YORK TIMES calls it "A hit song on YOUTUBE, unnameable on the radio."
They're blogging about the video single by CEE LO GREEN, which "has become a surprise hit, with more than three million views. GREEN is best known for being half of the duo called GNARLS BARKLEY, which had the hit, "Crazy."
GREEN's new ditty is "a bouncy song with over three million views on YOUTUBE in little more than a week. The singer is peeved at a girl who has left him and concludes that 'If I’d been richer, I’d still be with ya' and though 'there’s pain in my chest, I still wish you the best ...' followed by a certain crude phrase, and an 'ooh, ooh, ooh.'
ELEKTRA RECORDS is set to release GREEN’s latest album, "The Lady Killer," in DECEMBER -- but what can radio do with this viral hit? There's "already "a cleaned-up version of the single for the radio called 'Forget You!' which has 235 Total Spins on MEDIABASE so far.
CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WFLZ/TAMPA has played the song more often than any other station in the country. Said PD TOMMY CHUCK, "Due to the instant viral sensation the song has been and the fact that (until TUESDAY) it isn't for sale, it just made sense to jump on it immediately. We are playing the 'Forget You' version and listener reaction has been great."
If you haven't already seen it, you can view the video here. Please be aware of more than a few mentions of "the F word."
