TYLER MEDIA Country KJKE (JAKE FM)/OKLAHOMA CITY is currently campaigning on the air to raise $9 million to negotiate with their local NBA team, the OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER, on naming rights of the arena where they play. The FORD CENTER’s lease on their naming rights is up, and the station began campaigning on FACEBOOK late last week to spread the word about raising funds for their name to be chosen.
JAKE FM PD KEVIN CHRISTOPHER said: “JAKE is currently asking each listener and their family and friends to donate $20 each. We’re being realistic that it’s going to take all of our listeners as well as our competitors and even some funding help from local industry to make this happen. In the event we fall short, JAKE has agreed to donate all contributions to the THUNDER’s ‘NBA Cares’ local charities.”
The campaign promises that in addition to hosting the THUNDER games, the new JAKE CENTER will be the “every day person’s” entertainment venue.
CHRISTOPHER added: “JAKE isn’t about Corporate. He wants to bring the best Country concerts, rodeo and monster truck events, demolition derbies, X Games and even wedding receptions and reunions.” The station plans to make its CENTER’s Jumbotron available to listeners for giant sized X-BOX and WII gaming.
