DETROIT broadcasting fixture SONNY ELIOT will retire from CBS RADIO News WWJ-A/DETROIT on FRIDAY (9/10). The longtime weather forecaster started at WWJ in 1950 and was seen on NBC affiliate WWJ-TV (now WDIV-TV), CBS affiliate WJBK-TV (now a FOX affiliate), and independent WKBD-TV.
"I'm looking forward to whiling away the hours conferring with the flowers and consulting with the rain," said ELIOT. "I hope I'll be missed."
"SONNY is a true legend in this community and a major part of DETROIT's history," said CBS RADIO Detroit SVP and Market Manager DEBBIE KENYON. "His sense of wit and wisdom is a big part of WWJ's history. We've grown up watching SONNY on TV and hearing him on the radio. His sense of humor will be missed."
WWJ will air tributes to ELIOT all day FRIDAY with special audio clips and one-liners leading up to his final forecast at 4:20p (ET).
