CORUS Talk CKNW-A/VANCOUVER has fired 12 staffers in what the station calls a "restructuring" occasioned by financial considerations.
The GLOBE AND MAIL reports that among the employees let go were reporters LEANNE YUZWA and JASON HOWE and traffic reporter JENNIFER THOMPSON, and that VICTORIA-based legislative reporter SEAN LESLIE has been cut back to three days a week. DAVID BERNER's weekend show is the only talk show being dropped in the move.
New GM J.J. JOHNSTON told the paper that "we are sitting in the No. 2 market in CANADA, and the returns to CORUS were not what they should be." The station recently lost the broadcast rights to VANCOUVER CANUCKS hockey to crosstown CHUM LTD. Sports CKST-A (TEAM 1040).
