CURB RECORDS band MIKESCHAIR joined PD/morning co-host CARMEN BROWN of RTN Christian AC WJIS (THE JOY FM)/SARASOTA, FL on a trip to GUATEMALA to deliver over 27,000 pairs of shoes to orphans as a part of the "SHOES FOR ORPHAN SOULS" program.
"I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the GUATEMALAN people and their rich culture. It was so humbling to get to wash the feet of orphans while sharing the love of Christ with them. I will never forget the joy on their faces when we handed them a new pair of shoes," said MIKESCHAIR lead guitarist SAM TINNESZ.
The station collected the 15,716 pairs of shoes from listeners and charitable organization BEAUTIFULFEET.ORG that agree to match up to 12,000 pairs of shoes for every pair of shoes donated by listeners. The 15,716 total donated by listeners almost doubled the previous record of 8,600. The person or group that donated the most shoes would also receive a concert by MIKESCHAIR at their church.
MIKESCHAIR's current radio single, "KEEP CHANGING THE WORLD," was used as a theme song for the effort. This is the second time that MIKESCHAIR has partnered with WJIS in this capacity. Last year the group delivered over 7,000 pairs of shoes to orphans as part of the same campaign.
