The TULSA WORLD newspaper is reporting that TULSA and LOS ANGELES filmmakers are teaming up with the RODGERS family, owners of the famed CAIN’S BALLROOM venue, to make a documentary called “Raisin’ CAIN: A History of CAIN’S BALLROOM.” The documentary will span the venue’s musical history from the 1930s DEPRESSION era of BOB WILLS AND THE TEXAS PLAYBOYS to modern times with the likes of bands like the SEX PISTOLS, BOB DYLAN and WILCO.
Some of the artists featured in interviews for the film include ELVIS COSTELLO, WANDA JACKSON, JUNIOR BROWN, RED DIRT RANGERS, HOT CLUB of COWTOWN and surviving members of the TEXAS PLAYBOYS, among others. All money raised for the project will go toward the documentary, and additional proceeds will benefit the upcoming CAIN’S BALLROOM museum or to charitable organizations of the donor’s choice.
Director TATE WITTENBERG said of the filming: "We're a year-and-a-half into this already. CAIN'S should be in people's vocabulary, like the GRAND OLE OPRY and CBGB. This place has just as much history, if not more."
