An Amber Alert sent out by PEAK BROADCASTING Talk KMJ-A and Talk KMJ-F (THE FM KMJ)/FRESNO may have played a role in the successful rescue of an 8-year-old girl from an abduction. KMJ-F midday host AUSTIN HILL tells ALL ACCESS that the station, which sent out an Amber Alert after word got out that the girl had been taken by a stranger from her front yars on MONDAY evening, got word about 20 minutes before his 9a TUESDAY show that the girl had been recovered and the abductor arrested.
HILL launched into immediate coverage of the story, but also discussed how he had received two listener emails complaining that "KMJ is scaring people" and "all this Amber Alert stuff is excessive..." Most callers were grateful for the coverage, and later reports indicated that the "Good Samaritan" who stopped the suspected abductor had been "following the story" through news coverage and alerts and was able to identify the suspect's vehicle.
