The BBC has announced its timetable for moving some of its operations, including the staff of Talk BBC RADIO 5 LIVE, from LONDON to the new BBC NORTH headquarters in SALFORD, reports THE GUARDIAN.
5 LIVE is now scheduled to make the move next FALL. Management will move to the MEDIACITY complex as part of the second wave of moves in AUGUST through OCTOBER, and the remainder of 5 LIVE's staff will relocate in DECEMBER or in early 2012.
Among the other LONDON operations heading north are the BBC CHILDREN'S and LEARNING staff (CBEEBIES and CBBC), BBC SPORT, production of TV reality hit "DRAGON'S DEN" and "A QUESTION OF SPORT," children's TV fixture "BLUE PETER," the Mobile Apps division, and "BBC BREAKFAST." The move, already controversial, drew further criticism when 5 LIVE controller ADRIAN VAN KLAVEREN, who was hired knowing about the move, said recently that he would retain his LONDON home, where his family would continue to live, and would spend weekends in LONDON, an option discouraged for the 5 LIVE staff. BBC NORTH director PETER SALMON also initially said he would not move his family full-time but later reversed himself.
