Bridge Study Shows Terrestrial Radio TSL Down

The latest BRIDGE RATINGS study on radio listening behavior indicates that terrestrial radio 12+ TSL slipped from 19:15 to 18:45 in the first quarter of 2006, ending MARCH 31. This news comes on the heels of positive signs from the 2005 fourth quarter. There was an increase of 50 to 60 weekly quarter hours to "other media" among Persons 18-34. 

There is also an interesting trend among satellite radio subscribers. Weekly TSL is down from 16 hours in the second quarter of '05 to 12.6 hours in this most recent study for satellite radio subscribers of six months or more. 

Findings from the BRIDGE RATINGS study also show Internet Radio TSL down 17:30 to 17:00. Meanwhile, MP3 devices (including iPODS) usage increased from 12:45 from 12:15. 

BRIDGE RATINGS President DAVE VANDYKE explains, "What we are beginning to see is that traditional radio is no longer isolated as the only medium competing for our ears. As the study investigates listening behavior over time, this `perfect storm' of digital optional affects all."
