Condolences to family and friends of MARY MARGARET MYERS, the longtime ABC NEWS RADIO anchor, who died after a long battle with cancer. ABC NEWS RADIO VP/GM STEVE JONES told his staff that "she was a very sweet lady, and stylistically versatile enough to excel on both music and hard-news stations affiliated with ABC NEWS."
MYERS spent almost two decades at ABC (1980-97) as a news anchor and reporter. She previously anchored at CBS RADIO News WCBS-A/NEW YORK and served as News Director at the old WKTU/NEW YORK, and spent many years in PHILADELPHIA radio and television at WIBG-A and then-CBS O&O WCAU-TV, where she co-starred as "C.B." with "SESAME STREET"'s MATT ROBINSON in the children's show "THE CANDY APPLE NEWS COMPANY." Most recently, MYERS appeared on SALLY JESSY RAPHAEL's XM RADIO AMERICA'S TALK show in 2007-08.
A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for SATURDAY at 1p (ET) at CHRIST CHURCH, Quaker Hill, PAWLING, NY.
