The CRTC announced WEDNESDAY (10/13) that it will issue its decision on the purchase of CORUS' QUEBEC radio stations by COGECO in DECEMBER. COGECO has applied to buy French Sports CKAC-A, French Hot AC CKOI, AC CFQR (THE Q 92.5), and French Talk CHMP (FM 98,5)/MONTREAL, French Hot AC CFEL (102.1 CKOI) and French Oldies CFOM (SOUVENIRS GARANTIS)/QUEBEC CITY, French Oldies CHLT (SOUVENIRS GARANTIS) and French Active Rock CKOY/SHERBROOKE, French Oldies CJRC (104.7 SOUVENIRS GARANTIS)/GATINEAU-OTTAWA, French Hot AC CIME/ST. JEROME, and French Oldies CHLN (106.9 SOUVENIRS GARANTIS)/TROIS RIVIERES for about C$80 million. It has proposed spinning off its own French AC CJEC (RYTHME FM) and the to-be-acquired CFEL, and has proposed flipping CKOY to a 100% simulcast of CKAC-A. It also plans to create an independent news agency based at CHMP.
In other CRTC actions, NEWCAP's application to move the transmitter of Folk-Local Music CJYQ-A (THISISNEWFOUNDLANDLABRADOR.COM)/ST. JOHN'S, NL and decrease night power to 3.500 watts while keeping days 25,000 watts and going nondirectional has been approved. In applying for the new facility, NEWCAP had told the Commission that its previous antenna site is "unusable due to deterioration caused by the coastal NEWFOUNDLAND weather."
