JOHN ROBERTS has joined DALLAS-based FIRST BROADCASTING in the newly-created position of Group PD. ROBERTS’ responsibilities include day-to-day programming of the company’s two DALLAS AM stations, Classic Country KFXR-A and Urban Oldies KMGS-A. Look for KFXR-A to flip to a "totally new station identity with local DJs" later this month, and for KMGS-A to flip to a new talk-based format later this spring.
ROBERTS also assumes FIRST BROADCASTING corporate programming duties and will interact with local management teams in the company’s other markets including WASHINGTON, CINCINNATI, MEMPHIS, ANN ARBOR and SACRAMENTO. ROBERTS’ career includes a 9-year stint as VP/Programming for CLEAR CHANNEL, most recently overseeing their DALLAS cluster. Elsewhere during ROBERTS' 30-year broadcasting career, he's programmed in PHILADELPHIA, PITTSBURGH, CINCINNATI, ORLANDO, NORFOLK, INDIANAPOLIS, AUSTIN, and NEW ORLEANS.
He is one of this marketâ??s real programming leaders
ROBERTS noted, "KFXR/KMGS General Manager ED WODKA and I worked together in DALLAS in the ‘80s when I was PD at the EAGLE (then-Top 40 KEGL). I’m excited to be teaming up with him again! I also appreciate FIRST BROADCASTING Chairman RON UNKEFER’s genuine interest in bringing me into this company at an exciting time and offering me the opportunity to work with the entire group."
WODKA commented, "I’m delighted to launch these two new stations with JOHN. He is one of this market’s real programming leaders and brings a wealth of programming experience and knowledge to our stations."
