GENERAL NORMAN JOHNSON, former lead singer of the R&B group CHAIRMEN OF THE BOARD, has passed. The DETROIT-based group was founded in 1970, but moved south in the early '80s.
The CHAIRMAN were among the first acts signed to HOLLAND-DOZIER-HOLLAND’s INVICTUS label after they left MOTOWN RECORDS in the late '60s. Their major hit was ”Give Me Just Little More Time.” JOHNSON also won a Grammy for writing the CLARENCE CARTER crossover smash, “Patches.”
