A group of 46 state broadcasters associations joined with the NAB, NCTA, SBE, AMERICAN CABLE ASSOCIATION, MSTV, NPR, ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC TELEVISION STATIONS, and PBS in asking the FCC to extend the MARCH 29th, 2011 deadline for upgrading Emergency Alert System equipment to receive Common Alerting Protocol v1.2 standard EAS alerts.
The group is asking for an extension to SEPTEMBER 30th, 2011 or longer, holding the deadline in abeyance until the FCC completes its own CAP-related equipment certification process and revises Part 11 of the rules to reflect the implementation of CAP.
