An accident at a broadcast tower in DEERFIELD, NY, serving the UTICA market, sent three tower workers to the hospital MONDAY (10/25). The three men were working on the tower installing a digital antenna for W59AU, the low-power translator of PBS affiliate WCNY-TV/SYRACUSE, when the antenna apparently shifted and sent the three workers for ALPHA ANTENNA SERVICES dropping over 20 feet to the ground.
Worker GREGORY CAMPBELL was evaluated and released, while WILLIAM FOX received severe facial injuries and KELLY DOUGHERTY sustained a foot injury in the accident.
The mishap canceled NBC affiliate WKTV (TV)'s noon news because its building was evacuated, and WCNY's local signal has been taken off the air. WCNY sister Classical WUNY and ARJUNA BROADCASTING Rock WXUR (92.7 THE DRIVE) are also on the tower.
