CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WGY-A-F/ALBANY-SCHENECTADY-TROY has picked DON WEEKS' successor for mornings at the station, and it's WEEKS' longtime news anchor/sidekick and Dir. of News and Programming CHUCK CUSTER, paired with former crosstown NBC affiliate WNYT-TV (NEWS CHANNEL 13) anchor KELLY LYNCH. CUSTER, who has worked alongside WEEKS for 23 years, and LYNCH will succeed WEEKS after the latter's retirement in DECEMBER after 30 years at WGY.
The new show will evolve as LYNCH is brought into the mix with WEEKS and CUSTER in coming days, but will officially launch on JANUARY 3rd.
"They say, 'Never replace a legend' and luckily that's not what we're doing here," said CUSTER, "because no one will ever replace DON WEEKS. KELLY and I are simply succeeding him." LYNCH added, "I'm truly honored and excited by this opportunity. Radio is a creative and vibrant medium and to be working on a station with such great heritage is even more gratifying".
VP/Market Manager KRISTEN DELANEY said, "We couldn't be more excited to have two such talented people, with deep, local roots, taking the baton from DON." OM JOHN COOPER added, "This was a long and exhaustive nationwide search. There were many strong candidates but in the end the choice was clear. CHUCK and KELLY had an instant chemistry during our on-air auditions. They are funny, smart, local and very well known throughout the CAPITAL REGION."
