MORRIS COMMUNICATIONS Talk KFQD-A/ANCHORAGE 2-5p host DAN FAGAN returned to the air MONDAY (11/1) after a one-day suspension. FAGAN had asked listeners to register themselves as write-in candidates for the U.S. Senate in a bid to blunt the write-in campaign of incumbent Sen. LISA MURKOWSKI (R-AK), prompting complaints from individuals supporting MURKOWSKI and the station to pull FAGAN off the air FRIDAY.
FAGAN suggested THURSDAY that listeners file as write-in candidates after he learned that lists of write-ins were to be distributed at polling places.
NBC affiliate KTUU-TV reports that GM DENNIS BOOKEY came on the air with FAGAN MONDAY, telling listeners, "Anything coming out of this show should never be designed to confuse ... So in the future, we're not going to do things on this program that are going to confuse." FAGAN later said, "I think what I did was right. I think what we did, the 200 people that went down and registered, was we tried to thwart the cheating that's being permitted by the state of ALASKA on behalf of LISA MURKOWSKI. I stand by it. I'd do it again and I think it was not a mistake in the least."
