Les Woodie To Retire As WKDE GM After 48 Years

DJ BROADCASTING Country WKDE-F and News/Talk WKDE-A/ALTAVISTA, VA GM LES WOODIE will be retiring from the station that he has managed for 48 years. WOODIE, who also hosts a popular Bluegrass show on the station, began his run as GM at WKDE in 1962, after working in sales at other stations, and after a career in music as a Bluegrass artist.
A fiddle player, WOODIE has played with the likes of STAN DUDLEY, The BLUEGRASS AUTHORITY, The TUNSTALL TRIO and others. WOODIE played on the original, “Man Of Constant Sorrow,” recorded by Dr. RALPH STANLEY. His current band is called WESTOVER JUNCTION.
LES WOODIE’s last day at WKDE will be NOVEMBER 6th, with a private reception planned for THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 11th. Cards and letters can be sent to WKDE, 200 Frazier Rd., ALTAVISTA, VA 24517.
