ATLANTIC RECORDS and indie label DOWNTOWN RECORDS have announced a new alliance whereby selected DOWNTOWN releases will be marketed by ATLANTIC. Based in NEW YORK, with offices in LOS ANGELES, DOWNTOWN is distributed by ADA (ALTERNATIVE DISTRIBUTION ALLIANCE), a division of ATLANTIC's parent company, WARNER MUSIC GROUP. DOWNTOWN RECORDS was founded by veteran music executive JOSH DEUTSCH, who serves as the label's Chairman/CEO, GM TERENCE LAM, and entertainment investor JOHN JOSEPHSON.
The first joint Downtown/Atlantic release will be the debut album from GNARLS BARKLEY, a collaboration between producer DANGER MOUSE and rapper/vocalist CEE-LO GREEN. Entitled "ST. ELSEWHERE," the album is slated for release on MAY 9th. It will be preceded by the release of single, "Crazy," which made chart history last week when it hit #1 in the UK based solely on download sales.
In addition to this new deal with ATLANTIC, DOWNTOWN has formed a partnership with independent VICE RECORDS -- also affiliated with both ATLANTIC and ADA -- to utilize VICE's sales staff to work its initial slate of releases.
