ARETHA FRANKLIN has canceled all concerts and public appearances for six months "at the insistence" of her doctors. THE QUEEN OF SOUL, who is 68, was quietly admitted to a hospital in DETROIT last month for undisclosed reasons, and is now at home "resting comfortably."

FRANKLIN canceled two shows in AUGUST (NET NEWS 8/4) after suffering broken ribs and abdominal pains after a fall.

A statement from the star's publicist said she was "very anxious to get back on the road to perform for her fans. The award-winning songstress sends her sincerest apologies to her loyal followers and colleagues for the canceled shows."
