A NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA Supreme Court jury has ruled that Top 40 2DAY/SYDNEY morning co-host and former AUSTRALIAN IDOL judge KYLE SANDILANDS was defamed by a CHANNEL 7 "TODAY TONIGHT" report and promotions alleging he lied and "dishonestly" pushed his girlfriend TAMARA JABER's music.
The report last AUGUST 1 was promoted as an expose of how radio DJs and PDs "cook the charts," and SANDILANDS was labeled "the IDOL host and radio DJ who plays and promotes his live-in girlfriend."
The report alleged that JABER's first single "OOH AAH" was played heavily by 2DAY and other AUSTEREO-owned stations despite failing elsewhere. JABER records for KING KYLE records, owned by SANDILANDS. Under the Australian system, CHANNEL 7 now has the opportunity to plead its defense, and a judge will then rule on damages, if any.
