ESPN is shaking up its baseball broadcasting crew, with "SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL" play-by-play voice JON MILLER asked to stay on for radio duties, and color commentator JOE MORGAN exiting the network. MILLER, who also calls SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS games, and MORGAN, both Hall of Famers, bave been calling baseball action for ESPN for 21 years.
MILLER's agent RON SHAPIRO told the NEW YORK TIMES' RICHARD SANDOMIR, "JON is away. We've talked briefly. ESPN has offered him a radio package with some breadth to it, and he'll think things over. He just has to think it through."
SANDOMIR speculates that ESPN's DAN SHULMAN and OREL HERSHISER will form the new lead baseball broadcasting team for the network next season, with BOBBY VALENTINE as the third man in the booth if he does not take a managing job for 2011.
