Everyone at ALL ACCESS is very saddened about the passing of legendary record promoter BILL SCULL, age 64, following a long battle with cancer, last night (11/15) at home, surrounded by his family.
Most recently SCULL ran EO MUSIC, but made his mark in the music business with the creation of TRI-STATE PROMOTIONS AND MARKETING. It started out in 1980 as a promotion company in a three-state region, but TRI-STATE grew to have influence in 43 states. SCULL's early career in promotion was at POLYDOR and ELEKTRA/ASYLUM RECORDS, and he was part of the launch of ARISTA RECORDS with CLIVE DAVIS.
SCULL is survived by his ex-wife BARBARA, and daughters AMY SCULL, BETH MARTIN, KATHERINE SCULL, LAUREN SCULL and MARGARET SCULL. Also survived by his grandchildren JAKE, LOGAN, DECLAN and IVY MARTIN, his sister JUDY CHADWELL and brother JAMES (WANDA). Adored by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents SEWARD and ELOISE and his sister NANCY SUE.
The family will receive friends on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27th, 2010 at THE CARNEGIE CENTER OF COLUMBIA TUSCULUM at 3738 Eastern Ave. from 4-7p with a memorial celebration service at 7p. If desired, memorials may be given to HOSPICE OF CINCINNATI or THE DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF CINCINNATI.
An industry memorial in NEW YORK CITY at the first of the year is being planned.
ALL ACCESS Pres./Publisher JOEL DENVER said, "I've been friends with BILL forever, and he was so well-liked by everyone who came in contact with him. It was BILL's winning personality that built a terrific business by attracting such a great staff. He helped many artists and radio folks with their careers over the years. BILL SCULL was truly one of a kind, and I will really miss him."
One of SCULL's closest friends was RANDY MICHAELS, who commented to ALL ACCESS, "BILL lived to the fullest. He was fun loving and kind spirited. BILL had a good time, and people who were around BILL did too. He was positive and optimistic even in the worst of circumstances. I’m sure he's already working Gospel with great success."
J/RCA MUSIC GROUP EVP/Promotion RICHARD PALMESE, a close friend of SCULL's told ALL ACCESS, "BILL and I met in 1975 when ARISTA RECORDS was born. He was the CINCINNATI rep and I covered ST. LOUIS. We became fast friends, sharing the same birthday and breaking a lot records together. BILL's cheerful enthusiasm for life, music, family and friends is his gift to all of us who were blessed to know this loving and caring man. He inspired us to the very end with his fighting and positive spirit. I will remember him every time I smile. Rest in peace, good friend."
LONGBALL MUSIC Pres. KEVIN CARROLL, a lifelong friend of BILL's, told ALL ACCESS, "BILL was my POLYDOR rep when I first got into radio and I was stupid enough to add a stiff for him ... and we became friends for life. Loved working for BILL and even to his last day the glass was always half-full, never half-empty. I've never seen more heart, character or love from anyone in my life."
