The latest chapter in the epic tale of "THE COWHEAD SHOW" and PD BRIAN MEDLIN's ouster from CLEAR CHANNEL Rock WXTB/TAMPA (see NET NEWS 3/14, 3/16, & 3/17) has been written by the HERALD TRIBUNE's DAWN SCIRE, who was recently contacted by MIKE "COWHEAD" CALTA about he, his team, and his boss' firing over material from the morning show that the company deemed offensive.
Among the revelations dropped by COWHEAD include his claims that while he has "not been fined by the FCC nor has the FCC acknowledged receiving any complaint" about the show, he, his morning team, and MEDLIN were "terminated 'with cause'" by GM DAN DILORETO after the company presented COWHEAD with audio and a transcript from 8 alleged indecent moments from 3 days of the program. COWHEAD also claims that the station offered him a settlement, but that he turned it down and plans to file a grievance in court (at the time of his termination, COWHEAD had 27 months left on his contract).
Interestingly, COWHEAD (who says he plans on continuing to work with morning mates PHATTY and AMY) says that is "happy with the interest from both XM and SIRIUS," but that he recently "had some unexpected conversations in the TAMPA market." So could the show be returning to take on his old station? His non-compete ends on APRIL 17th of this year, so it's certainly in the realm of possibility.
