"The Big E" is joining his alma mater's basketball radio crew with the announcement that Basketball Hall of Famer ELVIN HAYES will serve as color commentator for UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON men's hoops for the rest of the season. The COUGARS' all-time scoring and rebounding leader and NBA great with the SAN DIEGO and HOUSTON ROCKETS and WASHINGTON BULLETS will join TOM FRANKLIN for the rest of this season, starting with SATURDAY's game at TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY.
"This is an exciting time for the UNIV. OF HOUSTON basketball program with new players and Coach (JAMES) DICKEY, and I just wanted to be a part of it," said HAYES. "As an analyst, I hope I can bring back back the excitement of the past and tell our fans about the enthusiasm of these young players and Coach DICKEY."
"To have someone like ELVIN HAYES on our radio broadcast team is a great honor for our basketball program," said DICKEY. "He will have a great feel for the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON, for COUGAR Basketball and for the overall game."
"We are absolutely thrilled that ELVIN will rejoin our basketball family as a member of our radio team," said Dir./Athletics MACK RHOADES. "As one of the greatest players in the history of college basketball and the NBA, he will bring valuable insights to our fans."
