CLEAR CHANNEL Black Talk WDIA-A/MEMPHIS has been pumping out 50,000 watts of good will for decades. Now, according to OM/morning host BOBBY O’JAY, "It’s time for an upgrade." According to O’JAY, the station is scheduled to simulcast on sister station Urban AC KJMS’s HD2 side channel, which is 100,000 watts.
"What a lot of people didn’t realize,” said O’JAY, “Is that we had actually been operating with only 10,000 watts daytime while our engineering department re-did our current ground pattern. That work won’t be completed until early 2011.” According to O’JAY, since WDIA made the announcement that they are moving to HD, the sale of HD radios in MEMPHIS exploded.
Asked how he feels about the move to HD, extending the reach and tradition of the station, BOBBY O’JAY expressed it this way: “This is a history-making moment for the first full-time Black station in AMERICA.”
