Condolences to family and friends of former Talk WHKP-A/HENDERSONVILLE, NC PD and News Director RICHARD WATERS, who died TUESDAY at his home in HENDERSONVILLE at 75, according to the HENDERSONVILLE TIMES-NEWS.
WATERS started his career as an intern at WHKP, then worked there after graduating high school. He moved on to work at WFBC-TV/GREENVILLE, SC, WBTV (TV) and WSOC-TV/CHARLOTTE, the ASSOCIATED PRESS, NEWHOUSE NEWS SERVICE, NEWS USA, and the TRANSYLVANIA TIMES before leaving the media business to serve as spokesperson for the TIRE INDUSTRY OF AMERICA in WASHINGTON. After retiring in 1995, he rejoined WHKP as News Director until suffering a stroke in 2009.
