Former BRITISH COLUMBIA Minister of Education and Deputy Premier CHRISTY CLARK, presently a host on CORUS Talk CKNW-A/VANCOUVER, is entering the race for the LIBERAL PARTY leadership post and Premier of the province. CLARK will make her formal announcement TODAY (12/8) at the SEGAL GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, but the party's website showed that she has already paid the deposit to formally enter the race.
CLARK has been hosting a daily 12:30-3p show on CKNW since AUGUST 2007. She served in the provincial legislature in 1996-2005, and was named Minister of Education and Deputy Premier in 2001. After leaving the provincial government, CLARK ran for Mayor of VANCOUVER in 2005 and narrowly lost the NON-PARTISAN ASSOCIATION's nomination to SAM SULLIVAN, who was subsequently elected Mayor.
Cabinet ministers GEORGE ABBOTT, MIKE DE JONG, KEVIN FALCON, and MOIRA STILWELL are CLARK's opponents in the leadership vote, which will be held FEBRUARY 26th. The winner will be both leader of the party and, because the party has control of the legislature, Premier of the province.
