Hawaii Public Radio Co-Founder Cliff Eblen Dies

Condolences to family and friends of HAWAII PUBLIC RADIO's co-founder and first GM, CLIFF EBLEN, who died SATURDAY (12/11) at 86, according to the HONOLULU STAR ADVERTISER's ERIKA ENGLE.

EBLEN started in broadcasting while at the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN, then came to HAWAII in JANUARY 1966 to serve as Program Manager of then-new noncommercial KHET (TV)/HONOLULU, which signed on the air on APRIL 15th of that year. He then left to partner with JOHN HENRY FELIX to form HAWAII PUBLIC RADIO, which launched KHPR/HONOLULU on NOVEMBER 13, 1981, and hosted shows on the station. After signing on KIPO/HONOLULU and KKUA/WAILUKU, EBLEN retired in 1992. He was also seen ina recurring role as an FBI agent on the original "HAWAII FIVE-O."
