'Lone Ranger' Announcer Fred Foy Dies

Announcer FRED FOY -- who spent years at WXYZ-A/DETROIT. uttering the famous words "A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty, 'Hi! Yo! Silver!' The LONE RANGER!" -- died in his sleep WEDNESDAY morning, reports BOSTON.COM. He was 89.
FOY was the announcer for the legendary "LONE RANGER" radio serial from 1948 until it went off the air in 1954, and reprised his role when "THE LONE RANGER" moved to television. He was also the announcer for DICK CAVETT's TV show.
He later served as the voice of the ABC TV and radio networks in NEW YORK (1960-retirement in the 1980s). He was voted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2000.
