TRIBUNE CO. COO GERRY SPECTOR has decided to leave the company at the end of the year. The CHICAGO TRIBUNE reports that SPECTOR was a longtime associate to former TRIBUNE honcho SAM ZELL, was brought into the company at the same time as the now-departed CEO RANDY MICHAELS
The TRIBUNE's four-man executive council, which has assumed MICHAELS' duties, made the announcement to the company staff. "GERRY has been an important part of our success, and he has been a tireless champion of efficiency and innovation across the company," the statement read. "(SPECTOR) helped re-focus our efforts during a very difficult 2008, when the economy took a downturn and the advertising environment became extremely challenging. GERRY’s leadership, creativity and ability to inspire others resulted in substantial financial improvement in our operations in 2009 and 2010."
