Some Stations Continue To Play Unedited Version

NEWCAP Classic Rock CIRK (K-97)/EDMONTON, AB is putting its playlist where its mouth is, and will defy a CANADIAN BROADCAST STANDARDS COUNCIL ruling that "Money For Nothing" by DIRE STRAITS is too offensive for Canadian broadcasts because of its use of the word "faggot." (NET NEWS 1/13)

K-97 will play the unedited version of the tune nonstop for an hour in protest of the ruling.

"We’re not afraid of repercussions. We have never had a complaint in the 25 years we have played the song," K-97 MD TODD JAMES told FOX NEWS. "We will play it in its entirety and unedited as we have always done and if someone wants to file a complaint we will take it from there."

Other Canadian radio people are weighing in as well.

"The audience reaction is 'Are you kidding me?'," commented CORUS VP/Brands-Programming DAVID FAROUGH. "There is a lot of disbelief. This song was a major hit and we have played it a billion times on the radio and we never even thought it was an issue until the ruling came out. The CBSC does some very good things, but they don’t always make the best decisions."
