WQMR Dumps Talk For Classic Hits

MARYLAND STAR BROADCASTING Talk WQMR/OCEAN CITY-SALISBURY, MD has jettisoned the Talk format for Classic Hits, positioning the station as Q101.

Station co-owner JACK GILLEN told DELMARVANOW.COM that, "national radio talk shows are losing their luster in this market, with the final blow coming from new NPR affiliate station, 88.3 WARU-FM, luring away listeners and advertisers."

"Having a Talk radio station with national talk show hosts is like having a big league sports team -- you must have a very strong roster," GILLEN said. "We did have a strong roster six years ago, but over time and with some shows being lured away by larger companies and others dropping out of radio for other reasons, you are left with a rotating ratings disaster."
