Milwaukee Music Award Winners Announced

MILWAUKEE PUBIC SCHOOLS Triple A-Progressive Urban hybrid WYMS (88NINE RADIOMILWAUKEE) held their annual MILWAUKEE MUSIC AWARDS this past week.  The awards honor the best in MILWAUKEE music, with station listeners selecting winners through an online survey held over several weeks.

Program Director MARK KEEFE said the awards "were one of many ways that 88NINE RADIOMILWAUKEE engages listeners to help shape the station." The awards were announced in an on-air ceremony LAST THURSDAY (2/17) afternoon and then there was an awards celebration at WHEREHOUSE that evening.

RADIOMILWAUKEE Executive Director MARY LOUISE MUSSOLINE noted that in recognizing excellence in CD artwork and music videos, the awards also complement the station’s annual on-air "Make Milwaukee" arts campaign. 

"It takes more than musicians to make a great album and translate the musical vision," she said.  "By including CD artwork and video categories, the RADIOMILWAUKEE MUSIC AWARDS bring focus to even more of MILWAUKEE's creative scene."

The annual awards began in 2008 to honor the best in MILWAUKEE music and build on the station’s commitment to MILWAUKEE musicians. This year’s RADIOMILWAUKEE MUSIC AWARDS winners were:

Album of the Year: "The Outsiders Are Back" by Kings Go Forth
Band of the Year:  I'm Not a Pilot
Song of the Year: "Like A Cigarette" by The Wild Birds
Solo Artist of the Year: Ethan Keller
Earwig Award (Catchiest Song): "Sambawete" by Herman Astro
Best CD Artwork: "Faux Fir" by Faux Fir
Best Music Video: "Astrovan" by Fatty Acids
Most Memorable Live Show: Prophetic at Summerfest
Blog of the Year: Muzzle Of Bees
Saturday Session Set of the Year: DJ SLYM
Best Disc We Missed: "In My Mind" by OYE!
Best Local Benefit Show:  2010 Pablove Benefit Concert (selected by station staff)
Milwaukee Music Ambassador Award: Vic Thomas (selected by station staff)
