A decision is due TODAY (2/22) on whether ODESSA COLLEGE will sell noncommercial KOCV/ODESSA, TX. Trustees of the college will meet TODAY to decide whether to sell the station to one of three bidders, MARFA PUBLIC RADIO, TEXAS PUBLIC RADIO, or TEXAS TECH's SOUTH PLAINS RADIO.
The ODESSA AMERICAN reports that the board of trustees' finance committee has made a recommendation but the results will be revealed at today's meeting. Each of the bidders estimated the cost of buying the station and improving the signal at between $250,000 and $500,000.
Vandy Students Hold Concert To Raise Funds, Awareness For Opposition To WRVU Sale
Meanwhile, the possibility that VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY will sell its noncommercial WRVU/NASHVILLE prompted the SAVE WRVU group to hold a benefit concert last THURSDAY. The VANDERBILT HUSTLER student newspaper reports that WRVU DJ and VANDERBILT student TIM HAMILTON termed the concert a success, raising money and awareness. "We had great support from the community, and there were representatives there from the music industry in NASHVILLE," HAMILTON told the paper. "There were also a lot of students. Most of the population, maybe half to two-thirds, were students."
