There's a battle of Oldies stations brewing in THE WINDY CITY, with CBS RADIO Classic Hits WJMK (K-HITS)/CHICAGO (NET NEWS 3/10) having debuted MONDAY (3/14), anchored by market wake-up vets EDDIE and JOBO.
Now, CITADEL BROADCASTING Oldies WLS-F has reacted. TOCBLOG's ROBERT FEDER reports the station has "transformed its midday hours -- from 10a to 3p MONDAY through FRIDAY -- into a local showcase for Radio Hall of Famer SCOTT SHANNON."
SHANNON is now hosting a customized version of his "TRUE OLDIES" show for WLS-F listeners.
WLS-F Pres./GM MICHAEL DAMSKY told FEDER the move had been in the works for months. "We had a strategic plan developed in partnership with [JOINT COMMUNICATIONS media consultant] JOHN PARIKHAL that we’ve been executing since DECEMBER. The idea of SCOTT doing a show for CHICAGO was one we first came up with in those meetings. I still believe he is a very well-liked personality who’s been the voice of our format for six years now. We enjoy the continuity of having him on, but we want his focus solely on the CHICAGO market."
