Condolences to family and friends of former JACKSON, MS radio and TV host JOBIE MARTIN, who died after a car crash in RIDGELAND, MS at 93. MARTIN was killed after apparently driving northbound in the southbound lanes on I-220 and hitting two other vehicles head-on, according to the JACKSON CLARION-LEDGER.
The first African-American to host a TV show in MISSISSIPPI, MARTIN hosted "THE JOBIE MARTIN SHOW" on NBC affiliate WLBT-TV and ABC affiliate WAPT-TV in the 1970's. He was also a host on WOKJ-A/JACKSON, ran "JOBIE'S FRIED CHICKEN," and continued as a substitute teacher at CHASTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL in JACKSON into his 80's, also serving on the Board of Trustees of HINDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
