MARTIN GILES has returned to work in the newsroom of CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WFLA-A/TAMPA after recovering from an incident that caused him to fumble his words during a report and subsequently black out, reports the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES.
On JANUARY 21st, GILES suddenly was unable to pronounce words and struggled to get through a report, ending up in the hospital for 10 days. His daughter, SUSAN GILES WANTUCK of crosstown UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA noncommercial WUSF/TAMPA, told the TIMES' ERIC DEGGANS that the aphasia was not caused by a stroke but likely by pneumonia and a brain infection; GILES has been cleared for a return to duty by doctors.
