CKLN/Toronto Goes Silent After It Loses Appeal Of License Revocation

The end has apparently come for RYERSON UNIVERSITY's embattled noncommercial CKLN/TORONTO, with the station's carrier going silent FRIDAY at 6:45p (ET), according to the TORONTO STAR.  The station lost an appeal to the Federal Court of Appeal of the CRTC ruling ordering the station off the air on FRIDAY.

The CRTC revoked CKLN's license after "breach of numerous regulations and conditions of license" and an inability to "convince the Commission that it could operate the station in a compliant manner going forward." The action followed CRTC investigations that began in JULY 2009 after complaints were received regarding the station's management, including a seven-month lockout from the studios by the building manager, and the station subsequently failed to comply with several CRTC regulations, including submission of audible on-air tapes, program logs and other records.  

CKLN won a temporary reprieve in FEBRUARY from a judge who stayed the license revocation pending appeal.
