Has RANDY MICHAELS inked the long-rumored deal to take over the programming lease for INNER CITY's WLIB-A/NEW YORK, thus knocking AIR AMERICA RADIO off the station?
RANDY MICHAELS told ALL ACCESS, “I heard that rumor this morning. It’s not a bad idea. I’ll look in to it.” Hmmmmm!
ALL ACCESS' attempts to get AAR officials to comment have thus far gone unanswered, but if the word circulating in the business is true, the changeover will take place AUGUST 31 and MICHAELS will keep the format Talk with a liberal lean but with his own company P1's ED SCHULTZ show and other programming.
If this all comes to pass, that leaves AIR AMERICA RADIO with limited options in the NEW YORK market, since all the full-market AM and FM signals are in established formats with changes to a liberal Talk format unlikely. SPORTING NEWS RADIO's WSNR-A, currently brokered to Russian broadcasters for most of the week, may be one possibility with a less-than-optimal signal.
In happier AAR news, the network will pick up another affiliate when SHELDON and ANITA DROBNY's NOVA M takes over SIMMONS MEDIA's Sports KDXE-A (ESPN 1380)/LITTLE ROCK in an LMA-with-option-to-buy and flips it to liberal Talk using AAR effective MONDAY (5/1).
