Shocker! After 13 years at CBS Top 40 WNKS (KISS 95.1)/CHARLOTTE, morning duo ACE & T. J. have decided not to continue with their show, turning down a new deal with the station. Their last show was this morning (5/20).
CBS/CHARLOTTE OM and WNKS PD JOHN REYNOLDS told ALL ACCESS, "We have been unable to come to terms on a new agreement. We wish them much luck and success. Look for a major announcement on a new morning show shortly. Until then, our midday star KELLY MEYERS will do mornings."
ACE told ALL ACCESS, "This was surreal to be walking out of the building today. We were as prepared as we could have possibly been. Despite the speculation, we have no deal with CLEAR CHANNEL or anyone else and will not have any offers and won't discuss it with anyone in CHARLOTTE until the first week of DECEMBER when our non-compete runs out.
"CLEAR CHANNEL has leased us some studio space to continue to do our show on our 12 affiliates including three CLEAR CHANNEL stations, WQEN/BIRMINGHAM, WNOK/COLUMBIA, SC, and WKSI/WINCHESTER, VA. We're very excited about the future."
T. J. commented to ALL ACCESS, "We came away this morning all packed and ready and ironically headed to lunch at the first place we ate at when we interviewed for this job 13 years ago -- it's a little pub VINNIE's. It's scary and exciting at the same time to do this, but we are more excited than scared. We've been working hard to get out in front on our digital platforms, and we are making big progress -- as they will keep us moving forward with our many fans, through our wonderful affiliates. We thank them all for their continued support."
Word is that ACE & T. J. staffers YANKEE PETE and GUENN PETERSON will soon rejoin the show once their employment with CBS concludes at the end of MAY.
