Country WYSH-A/CLINTON, TN is converting to solar power, owner RON MEREDITH tells the KNOXVILLE NEWS-SENTINEL. The station is adding 36 solar panels to its roof to supply the studio and transmitter with their power needs. Overall, MEREDITH estimates he'll slice his power bills in half -- perhaps more -- once he goes solar.

"In order to compete with guys that throw around billions of dollars, I've got to save money and thought it would be better to conserve electricity than to fire staff members," MEREDITH said.

He had originally planned to under take the project in 2009 but the tepid economy put the brakes on the project until now. Federal grant funding became uncertain for several months, but once that question was resolved, MEREDITH said he was able to move ahead.
