The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER is reporting that Sen. BILL FRIST (R-TN) is pushing a broadcast indecency bill back into play, under pressure from the AMERICAN FAMILY ASSOCIATION. FRIST is reportedly using the "hotlining" procedure to get the bill going again; "hotlining" places a bill not expected to hit much resistance on a fast track, although any objecting Senator can place a hold on the legislation.
Senate Commerce Committee Chairman TED STEVENS (R-AK) has been sitting on the House version of the bill while waiting to see how effective industry self-regulation might be; the bills would impose much harsher penalties for broadcast indecency, including a drastic increase in fine amounts.
