Condolences to family and friends of longtime noncommercial WQED-F/PITTSBURGH personality JIM SWEENIE, who died JUNE 5th from complications of surgery to clear a blocked carotid artery in PITTSBURGH at 76, according to the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE.
SWEENIE most recently hosted a SATURDAY night show at the station, and served WQED on TV and radio since the 1960's, including a stint as floor manager for "MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD." His last show, pre-taped, aired the day before his passing.
In a message on the station website, WQED Executive Director SUSAN JOHNSON said, "SWEENIE's personality was a daily reminder to those of us who worked with him, of what's sweet in life: great music, literature and all of the arts; knowledge; humor; seeing the world; the fun and rhythm of sports; his many four-footed friends, and love."
